Burlesque!

Let me preface this post by saying that if you are going to this movie to witness a cinematic breakthrough, you are going to be disappointed. You have to go in to it knowing that it isn't going to be the best movie, the acting won't be the best, but it is going to be a lot of fun. Having said that, I really enjoyed this movie. I was actually really surprised at how well Christina did in her role, considering she is a singer, and this was her first acting job. She wasn't amazing by any means, but I expected her to be worse. I continue to be blown away by her vocals every time she opens her mouth, and while a lot of her songs sounded the same, she still sang them fantastically.

Cher was Cher. I wish they would have but more emphasis on the relationship between Ali and Tess, especially with Ali not having a mother really and never learning how to put on make up herself. The scene where Tess shows Ali the basics and is kind of motherly towards her is a really tender and sweet moment and I felt that focusing more on her taking Ali under her wings would have made the movie a little better.

Having said all that, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The dancing was spectacular. The music, while sounding similar, was a ton of fun as well. In short, if you are just looking to be entertained and you want to feel like grooving along with good music, you should definitely check this out!

Updates

I realize it has been incredibly too long since I have last posted, and I have seen way too many movies/shows to even begin to update everyone, so I've chosen to movies to discuss.

1) "The Kids Are Alright" - Well, I think the title pretty much sums up this entire movie....alright. I did not find his movie to be spectacular, in the least. I decided to watch it due to the three main actors getting GG noms for their performance, as well as the movie getting a nom, and boy was I.....surprised by the quality of the movie. While Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore's performances were adequate, they were no where close to being some of their best work, their characters had no depth to them and they just seemed sporadic with their decisions and judgements. Annette Benning, on the other hand, was fantastic. Her character started out being the head of the household, strict parent, who brings home all the income, but somehow manages to transition in to this vulnerable and sad character who realized the error of her ways and tries to change that. She played the role extremely well. Overall, I'd give the movie a solid C+, if not a B. The kids were just annoying in the movie, but I imagine that is what all 15 and 18 year olds are like these days.

2) "Inception" - Where to begin!? I guess I can begin with Marion Cotillard. She. Is. Magnificent. I am so looking forward to see all of her upcoming projects. She is stunning, in a classic beauty way, she is extremely talented, her abilities are a step above most of our American actresses. The movie itself was fantastic. The cinematography of the entire film was brilliant. I loved when in one world things would be happening in slow motion, yet in the other, it would be normal speed. The way the scenes were shot really made this movie. Everyone in this movie gave stellar performances, minus Ellen Page, who gave her usual one note performance, which is still good, I just think she needs to switch it up a bit. The idea of going in to a dream to plant an idea is so crazy that it keeps you interested to see how they do it, and having all of the different levels, while it may seem confusing, just made the movie that much better. I can't say enough good things about this movie.

Flash Forward

Seriously people? Why is no one watching this show?! Flash Forward is the best new show of the season! Once again, as with The Fourth Kind, the acting is a little shifty, but the acting doesn't even matter. This. Show. Is. Crazy! It has been filled with so many twists and game changers, it isn't even funny. The premise of the show is that the entire world blacked out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and everyone had visions of what is going to happen on April 29th, 2010. The whole show is now based on whether or not these visions are going to come true, of if they are just random visions. Some people saw nothing, which means they have died by April 29th. They create this website called "Mosaic" where everyone gets on and posts what their visions were so that everyone can compare. Now people get nervous because they don't like their visions, so they are taking their own lives to stop it from happening.

What I like about the show is how much it makes you think. You are constantly thrown for a loop with this show, people you think are good characters turn out not to be, things you think aren't possible, are possible, it is a mind bender! My favorite thing about the show, however, is that it makes you wonder about life. Does every decision we make effect the course of our life? Are we put on this earth for a specific purpose? What happens if you go off course from the path you are here for? I can't stop thinking about all of this! Seriously, check this show out!

The Fourth Kind

Ok, per the recommendation of my co-worker, Meghan, I decided to get this movie off of Netflix. I only say that because I personally didn't think this movie was going to be that good. BOY WAS I WRONG (in a manner of speaking). I actually can understand where people would hate this movie and where they would love this, because I had a love hate relationship with it. On one hand, the movie was a little slow and boring for the most part. Nothing against Milla Jovavich, love you girl, but her acting was definitely not her best. Granted, the people she was doing the studies on actually did a really really good job at pretending to be under hypnosis and being terrified. There were definitely some holes in the plot, such as, if there was a policeman outside of her house when her daughter was "abducted", why did everyone think she was crazy? She can't be crazy if it really happened. On to the love aspect of this movie, I WAS TERRIFIED!!! I strongly believe in life on other planets. I just don't understand how, out of nine planets, we can be the only one with some sort of life form. Another thing, I am creeped out by hypnosis as well. I know that in a lot of situations, it's fake, but real was are disturbing. Just the thought of losing all control of your body is freaking me out right now. Back the the movie, When things started happening with her patients, with the levitation and the killing, I was on pins and needles. I think what works so well with this movie is that it can play off peoples fears of the unkown. They say this is all true, but we don't know that, and we can't say it isn't true because we weren't there. Overall, I give the movie itself a 2 out of 5 stars, and this is only because had it not been about Aliens, I know I wouldn't have found it as interesting.

Oscar After thoughts

So I know it has been a week since the Oscars, but I have been really busy this week. What did I think of the Oscars? Well, as a whole, I thought that they were a little boring. I did not really find Steve Martin or Alec Baldwin to be all that funny, they were more awkward than anything and their comedic timing was not together at all. The past years have been better with people such as Ellen Degeneres and Hugh Jackman.

As far as the awards go, I am happy to say that at my Oscar party, I was in a three-way tie for first place with my ballot. Granted, I shouldn't really brag because I got 11 wrong, but hey, 13 correct guesses isn't bad. I am so incredibly happy that Jeff Bridges won, that was a much deserved win for him. My picks were mostly correct with the five main categories, however, I was wrong with the Best Picture category. I can't say that I am disappointed though because I believe that ''The Hurt Locker" was a much better movie overall. Yes, there were parts here and there that weren't up to par with "Avatar'', but when it comes down to it, "Avatar" wasn't original enough in their storyline. Also, While I am happy for Sandra Bullock because I think that she is a great person and actress, I still am holding my ground on the fact that I don't believe she deserved that award. Meryl was pitch perfect as Julia Child and she should have taken home that Oscar. I feel as though the Academy was just giving Sandra the award because they didn't feel as though she was going to have another role as good as this one and they wouldn't have another opportunity to give it to her, so they chose her.

My biggest complaint about the Oscars though, is that they cut the performances from the five songs nominated for Best Original Song. I was so looking forward to hearing Marion Cotillard and Jeff Bridges sing, yet, all I got was someone on stage introducing one of the ten nominated movies for the evening. Such a major disappointment. Overall though, I will give the Academy two thumbs up on recognizing the correct people this year, but one thumb down on the Oscars as a whole. Hopefully next year they will be able to liven it up.

OSCARS!!!!

Tonight is the big night! I can't wait. Tonight is going to be my first review on here and it is going to cover the awards given tonight and how I think the show was as a whole. This is one of my favorite nights of the year!!! Here are my predictions in the main categories. Best Motion Picture will go to Avatar, even though I think it should go to Hurt Locker. Best Actor will go to Jeff Bridges, in my mind, this one is a no brainer. For Best Supporting Actress, my pick is M'onique. I also think this one is a no brainer, she was fantastic. Now, as far as supporting actor and best actress, I think those are going to be tough categories. I am hoping for Best Supporting Actor it will go to Christoph Waltz, he was fantastic in that movie. For Best Actress, I have a feeling it is going to go to Sandra Bullock unfortunately. I didn't get the hype and I didn't see her as being a phenomenal actress. I love Sandra, but I just don't think she deserves this one. I think it should either go to Meryl for Julie & Julia, or it should go to Helen Mirren for Last Station. Both were amazing in their roles and so believable. Lastly, for best director, I know that James Cameron is the favorite here, but I'm going to go off the grid and say that Kathryn Bigelow will come out on top, rightfully so. I hope everyone enjoys the Oscars this evening!!!

Glitt

Here is just a little information about me....

My name is Jeffrey Glitt and I am 24 yrs old, soon to be 25. I have worked at a Movie Theater, as well as Blockbuster for over two years. I love all things entertainment, such as movies, music, TV, games, books, etc, and I thought I would write a blog that had my review of all of these things. I am not a writer, and I don't claim to be one, so my writing skills will not be perfect. That, however, is not the point of this blog. I wanted to create this blog because when I worked at Blockbuster, I had people who trusted and valued my opinion on all things entertainment and I miss that, so I'm hoping to get some more followers who have the same likes and dislikes as I do. This is all opinion, so I know not everyone will feel the same as I do. I hope you enjoy and please feel free to leave comments!
